PointCross Life Sciences held a webinar on Visualizing your SEND datasets.
What we covered:
- How to visualize SEND datasets for QC
- Conducting in-depth subject-level reviews
- Mastering cross-study comparison and analysis
- Understanding the limitations of using only SEND datasets for visualizations
- Exploring pre-templated and customized TFLs
This session is tailored for professionals in QC, data analysis, or study management, offering hands-on tips and actionable insights to elevate your data visualization skills.

Questions asked during webinar:
Are you showing standard visualizations or must these be customized?
All visualizations shown are based off of standard visualizations in Xbiom – each visualization was opened to the default setting per each domain. There are a number of pre-templated views that address the most common needs for visualizations. As we move through the visualizations, every click to adjust, such as individual versus summary, or changing the axis, is easily done in a graphical interface. Custom visualizations can be created with each of these clicks, or can be templated per business base using the R functionality built in with the tables or figures. Once the data is ingested into Xbiom, it is accessible for the user to modify tables, figures, and listings to their needs.
Does it have to be in SEND format to visualize?
PointCross regularly ingests all forms of collected data (LIMS, Excel, .pdf, handwritten, etc.) at any stage, even as the study is ongoing, to digitize together – you do not need SEND to visualize data. SEND is separate, whereas SEND is created after the final study report is completed. Where all future tables, figures, and listings can be created for your final report. This data does not have to be in SEND format – it can be a raw extract or collected material.
Can I visualize my biomarker data?
Yes! Any form of collected data that should be presented in your submission can be visualized using Xbiom, whether or not it is in your SEND dataset. If you already have a SEND dataset, the biomarker data can be added. If you do not have SEND yet, please contact us for a firm, fixed price quote – all custom domains are included at no additional charge.
How does visualization help my data quality?
Visualization of your SEND datasets, even after the study is completed, is an easy way to run an additional quality check. Your SEND datasets should be able to reproduce every table present from your LIMS, but if the summary table is not included, a proper QC check will likely include manual inspection of every record. With visualization, a manual inspection of the graphs is more likely to catch an aberrant value, whether or not it is a true aberrant value, or if it is a “typo”. For example, a body weight of “250” versus “2500” might not be easy to catch in the SEND dataset, but when it is visualized, a “250” would stand out against a range of subjects with values of 1500-4000.
We traditionally receive our SEND datasets through our CRO, can we still visualize our data with this Xbiom tool?
Yes, many sponsors use Xbiom as a study repository for a secure and encrypted, role-based access platform for their raw and curated study data. Their legacy studies can be grouped for cross-study analysis. Ongoing study data can be monitored even as your study is being conducted at a CRO – the data read on a weekly basis (or in some Sponsors’ case, daily basis).
How do I get my digitized study data from the CRO I am using?
The Digitized LIMS extracts are easily and routinely exported from the CRO’s LIMS systems into PointCross’ secured virtual data room for data traceability and provenance. PointCross firmly believes that Sponsors should be the owners of their digital study data in addition to the Study Report generated at the conclusion of the study. Some CROs refuse to provide Sponsors with their digital study data, so PointCross is routinely asked to generate SEND off of the PDF Study Report and that is perfectly fine.
